ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Saturday 17th July 2021

 
Two Great White Egrets and a Spoonbill were of note, with a Brent Goose flying east, while on the sea 300+ Common Scoter, 2 Gannets, 13 Sandwich Terns and a Common Tern were recorded. A Whimbrel flew over calling, with 2 Greenshank also of interest, and a movement of hirundines included 20+ Sand Martins and 10 Swallows along the Broadwater.
 
Moths today included 3 Yellow Tail, 2 Small Emerald, 40 Common Footman, 4 Cinnabar, 3 Haworth’s Pug, a Short-cloaked Moth, 11 Scarce Footman, 4 Pine Hawk, Privet Hawk, 7 Round-winged Muslins, 7 Dwarf Cream Waves, 6 Rosy Footman, a Kent Black Arches, Small Dotted Buff, Riband Wave, 2 Swallowtail, Small Scallop, 3 Oak Eggars, Magpie Moth, Small Magpie, Early Thorn, 8 Rustic, 4 Mottled Rustic, 6 Brown Tail, 2 Buff Ermine, 2 Single Dotted Wave, 2 Lyme Grass, 3 Smoky Wainscot, 2 Grey Dagger sp, 3 Uncertain, 2 Garden Tiger, Brown-line Bright-eye, Dingy Footman, Peppered Moth, Least Carpet, Common Emerald, Barred Yellow, Poplar Hawk, 2 Ruby Tiger, Spectacle, Fen Wainscot and True Lover’s Knot.
 
Butterflies were Common Blue, Small Copper, Ringlet, Meadow Brown, Red Admiral Small Tortoiseshell, Gatekeeper, Large White and Painted Lady, with Common Darter, Four-spot Chaser and Black-tailed Skimmer also recorded.
