ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Oservatory Friday 30th July 2021

 A day of blustery showers and sunshine, 2 Great White Egrets were around the marshes with Green Sandpiper, Avocet and 5 Black-tailed Godwits around the Broadwater. A juvenile Cuckoo was in the dunes and a Hobby was hunting near the Observatory mid afternoon.
 
A good variety of moths was recorded, including 5 Brown Tails, a Buff Ermine, Light Arches, 14 Garden Tigers, 3 Oak Eggars, 18 Common Footman, 31 Scarce Footman, 23 Dingy Footman, Ringed China-mark, 5 Rosy Footman, 8 Ruby Tiger, 3 Shaded Broad-bar, 4 Cloaked Minor, 2 Spectacle, Dusky Sallow, 2 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, Lesser Yellow Underwing, Antler Moth, 3 Drinkers, 2 Red Twin-spot Carpet, Grey Dagger agg, White Satin Moth, 5 Yellow Tail, Flounced Rustic, Dwarf Cream Wave, 2 Pine Hawk, 2 Willow Beauty, Least Carpet, Small Fan-footed Wave, Nut-tree Tussock, 2 Fen Wainscot, Silver Y, Knot Grass, Blood Vein, Pebble Prominent, 3 Archer’s Dart, Straw Dot, Nutmeg, 2 White-line Dart, 2 Common Rustic, 12 Rustic, Southern Wainscot, Small Waved Umber, Chinese Character, Large Yellow Underwing, Common Carpet, Small Blood-vein, Swallowtail, Shore Wainscot, Lyme Grass, 2 Flame Shoulder, Early Thorn, Clay, Mottled Rustic and Brown Plume.
 
3 Migrant Hawkers, a Black-tailed Skimmer and 6 Common Darters were also noted, with Painted Lady, Gatekeeper, Red Admiral and Peacock all seen.
