ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Monday 30th August 2021

Seawatching today produced a Sabine’s Gull west, 48 Wigeon, 140 Teal, 509 Common Scoter, a Red-throated Diver, 3 Fulmars, 3 Sooty Shearwaters, 41 Gannets, 17 Arctic Skuas, 8 Great Skuas, 15 Sandwich Terns and 2 Common Terns. Also of interest were a 19 Black-tailed Godwits, 2 Greenshank, 11 Snipe, a Hobby, Peregrine, 25 Swallows, 30 House Martins, a Cetti’s Warbler, 3 Chiffchaffs, a Willow Warbler, 2 Blackcaps, a Pied Flycatcher and a Grey Wagtail.
 
Moths included a Spectacle, 10 Flounced Rustic, 6 White-line Dart, 2 Lesser Broad Bordered Yellow Underwing, 6 Archer’s Dart, Square-spot Rustic, a Poplar Hawk Moth, Flame Shoulder, 2 Silver Y, Vine’s Rustic and Scarce Footman.
 
A Small Heath, Painted Lady, Wall Brown, Gatekeeper and Southern Hawker were also of interest.
