ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Monday 9th August 2021

 
Another day of large scale tern activity with 724 Common Terns at Thornham Habour and 350+ Sandwich Terns also seen. An Arctic Tern was noted. Other birds of interest were an Arctic Skua, 2 Great White Egrets, a Spoonbill east, Great Crested Grebe offshore, 77 Black-tailed Godwits, a Common and 2 Green Sandpipers, 3 Greenshanks, 100+ Sand Martins, 120 Swallows, 15 House Martins, 3 Cetti's Warblers, 5 Chiffchaffs and 4 Blackcaps.
 
Moths today included 14 Scarce Footman, a Spectacle, 4 Garden Tiger, Shuttle-shaped Dart, White-line Dart, 3 Ruby Tiger, Dark Arches, 6 Yellow-tail, Peppered Moth, Flounced Rustic, 13 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, Sharp-angled Peacock, Chinese Character, 7 Drinker, Southern Wainscot, 3 Rustic, Garden Pebble, 6 Common Rustic, 4 Dingy Footman, Ear sp, 3 Straw Dot, Archer's Dart, Kent Black Arches, Swallow Prominent, Nutmeg, Rosy Minor, Large Yellow Underwing, Canary Shouldered Thorn and Flame Shoulder.
 
Migrant Hawker and Common Darter were common around the reserv today and a Willow Emerald Damselfly was seen near the village hides.
