ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Sunday 8th August 2021

Another busy day for birds offshore with a huge mixed feeding flock of terns and many more resting on the beach, with overall counts of 800+ Sandwich and 600+ Common Terns recorded and a juvenile Black Tern also seen. Three Arctic Skuas were chasing terns near Thornham Harbour. Waders included 3 Whimbrel, a Ruff, 73 Black-tailed Godwits, 3 Green Sandpipers, 2 Greenshank and 2 Snipe. A Hobby was hunting over the pines between the showers.
 
Moths included 8 Scarce Footman, 2 Drinkers, 3 Yellow-tails, 2 Garden Pebbles, 3 Shuttle-shaped Dart, 8 Common Rustic, 3 Flounced Rustic, Rustic, 4 Cloaked Minor, White-line Dart, Fen Wainscot, 7 Dingy Footman, Swallow Prominent, 2 Canary-shouldered Thorn, 2 Pine Hawk, 2 Garden Tiger, Mother of Pearl, Gold Spot, 5 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Undewing, Coxcomb Prominent, Rosy Rustic, Rosy Footman, 3 Ruby Tigers, 2 Straw Dot, 2 Red Twin-spot Carpet, Large Yellow Underwing, 2 Smoky Wainscot, 2 Setaceous Hebrew Character, Rusty Dot Pearl, Flame Shoulder and Straw Underwing.
