ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Saturday 7th August 2021

 Highlights today included 7 Common Scoter, a Fulmar, 2 Gannets, 4 Little Terns, a juvenile Black Tern, 237 Sandwich Terns and 286 Common Terns on the sea and beach. A flock of 25 Golden Plover flew west along the ridge mid afternoon and 17 Black-tailed Godwits were noted flying past the Observatory. Single Green and Common Sandpipers were noted with 2 Snipe, a Hobby and a Yellow Wagtail also of interest.
 
Moths included 5 Dingy Footman, 2 Straw Underwings, a Knot Grass, Dark Arches, Lesser Yellow Underwing, 2 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, 2 Shaded Broad-bar, 4 Drinkers, a Common Carpet, 6 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwings, Mother of Pearl, 9 Common Rustic, 2 Southern Wainscot, a Dunbar, Garden Pebble, 3 Scarce Footman, Gold Spot, Straw Dot, Buff Ermine, Garden Tiger, 3 Smoky Wainscot, Yellow-tail, Bright-line Brown-eye, 3 Flounced Rustic, Pale Prominent, Canary Shouldered Thorn, 3 Silver Y, 3 Shuttle-shaped Dart, 2 Turnip, Flame Shoulder, 2 Rustic, Clay and Ruby Tiger.
 
A good range of butterflies included Gatekeeper, Red Admiral, Painted Lady, Small and Large White, Wall Brown, Peacock, Small and Essex Skippers and Common Blue.
 
Black-tailed Skimmer, Migrant Hawker, Common and Ruddy Darters, Azure and Common Blue Damselfly were all recorded.
