ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Sunday 22nd August 2021

A day of low cloud with some rain late morning and winds in the north. On the sea 7 Gannets and 7+ Arctic Skuas were recorded, with 3 Great White Egrets around the Broadwater and a Spoonbill in Thornham Harbour. Common Sandpiper and Greenshank were noted. A juvenile Cuckoo was in the dunes and visible passage of Swallows and House Martins continued through the day. Other migrants included 2+ Wheatears and 6 Yellow Wagtails.
 
Moths included Common Carpet, 7 Large Yellow Underwing, Yellow Belle, 2 Red Twin-spot Carpet, 7 Garden Pebble, Small Waved Umber, Cloaked Minor, 6 Silver Y, 10 Dingy Footman, 5 Drinker, 14 Flounced Rustic, 6 Flame Shoulder, 2 Orange Swift, Rusty Dot Pearl, 2 Tree Lichen Beauty, 2 Scarce Footman, 2 Willow Beauty, Double-striped Pug, Lime-speck Pug, 2 Mother of Pearl, 5 Archer’s Dart, 2 Shuttle-shaped Dart, Knot Grass, 3 White-line Dart, 2 Turnip, 5 Straw Dot, Green Carpet, 4 Vine’s Rustic, 3 Setaceous Hebrew Character, Small Square Spot, 2 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, Clay, Small Blood-vein, Pale Prominent, Square-spot Rustic, Gold Spot, Small Fan-footed Wave, Dark Arches, Single Dotted Wave, White Point, 2 Spectacle and a Cabbage Moth.
