ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Friday 22nd April 2022

From Thornham Bank a Whimbrel, 5 Black-tailed Godwits, a Cuckoo, 3 Wheatears, 5 White Wagtails and 3 Yellow Wagtails were recorded. Around the reserves a Swallow, 2 Cetti's Warblers, 6 Chiffchaffs, 12 Blackcaps, Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Whitethroats, 8 Sedge Warblers, a Grasshopper Warbler, 4 Stonechats and 3 Siskins were seen. A male Ring Ouzel was in the dunes in the afternoon and a Spoonbill was also of interest.

A further 9 Emperor Moths hatched during the day, with a Great Prominent, Pale Pinion, Pine Beauty, Hebrew Character, 2 Muslins, a White Ermine and an Angle Shades caught in the traps overnight. A Wall Brown, Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock and Green-veined White were seen around the Observatory.
