ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Saturday 14th May 2022

Highlights today were on the sea a Great Crested Grebe, 57 Little Terns, 78 Sandwich Terns and 2 Common Terns, and around the reserves a Cuckoo, 5 Swifts, 4 Swallows, 5 Chiffchaffs, Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Whitethroats, 10Sedge and 3 Reed Warblers, and 2 Yellow Wagtails over calling.

In the moth traps 7 White Ermines, 2 Pine Beauties, 12 Cinnabars, 3 Buff Tips, 4 Small Elephant Hawks, a Willow Beauty, 3 Small Waved Umbers, 2 Least Black Arches, 2 Knot Grass, V-Pug, 11 Muslins, Sharp-angled Peacock, 3 Waved Umbers, 6 Treble Lines, 2 Pale Tussocks, 2 Flame Shoulders, a Shoulder Strip, Mottled Rustic, Common Wainscot, Tawny Pinion, Small Square Spot, 2 Shuttle-shaped Dart, Green Carpet, Yellow Belle, Latticed Heath, Brimstone, Garden Pebble, Hebrew Character and 3 Vine's Rustics.

Butterflies included Common Blue, Brimstone, Small Copper, Brown Argus, Green Hairstreak, Orange Tip and Red Admiral.

Four-spotted Chaser, Azure, Blue-tailed and Large Red Damselfly were also recorded.
