ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Monday 18th July 2022

Temperatures briefly reached 34 degrees this afternoon with a southerly breeze. A marked movement of Swallows was taking place from early morning with 650 counted flocking together over the marshes and Broadwater. Other birds were understandably scarce but 13 Spoonbills were near the Car Park Hide, 39 Black-tailed Godwits flew east, a Kittiwake and 5 Med Gulls were among the gulls hawking insects over the pines and a Bullfinch and a Green Woodpecker were near the village hides. 

In the moth traps 5 Least Yellow Underwings, 5 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, 2 Cream Bordered Green Peas, Shaded Broad-bar, 3 Oak Eggars, 4 Ruby Tigers, European Corn Borer, 10 Common Rustics, 3 Brown-line Bright-eyes, 5 Rustics, 2 Knot Grass, Pale Prominent, Silky Wainscot, 2 Common Footmen, Pine Hawk, 3 Garden Tigers, 2 Yellow-tails, Least Carpet, Mother of Pearl, Riband Wave, Pebble Prominent, 2 Drinkers, Double Square Spot, Rosy Rustic, 5 White-line Darts, Buff Arches, Heart & Dart, 5 Large Yellow Underwings, 2 Smoky Wainscots, 2 Lyme Grasses, Buff Tip, Dark Arches, Small Blood-vein, Archer's Dart, 2 Rosy Minors, 2 Shuttle-shaped Darts, Small Fan-footed Wave, Scalloped Oak, Sand Dart, Uncertain and Humming-bird Hawk were caught.
