ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Sunday 17th July 2022

A stifling day but with a saving breeze, highlights were a group of 11 Spoonbills on the Broadwater, two Whimbrels over calling, single Black-tailed Godwit, Greenshank, 2 Sand Martins west, 15 Swallows, Cetti’s Warbler, 7 Chiffchaffs, 4 Blackcaps, 3 Whitethroats, 2 Sedge and 4 Reed Warblers, and 3+ Stonechats on the east bank.
 
Moths were less numerous today with a Dagger agg, 6 Drinkers, 4 Ruby Tigers, 2 Scarce and one Common Footman, a Knot Grass, 2 Oak Eggars, 4 Rustics, Large Yellow Underwing, Brown-tail, Lyme Grass, 2 Dusky Sallows, Red Twin-spot Carpet, Cinnabar, Pine Hawk, Nut-tree Tussock, Fen Wainscot, Brown-line Bright-eye, Least Yellow Underwing, Buff Ermine, Peppered Moth, 2 Dark Arches, 3 Common Rustics, 4 White-line Darts, 2 Clays, 2 Garden Tigers, Yellow-tail, Rosy and Cloaked Minors and an Archer’s Dart caught.
