ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Saturday 16th July 2022

On the sea today 3 Fulmars, 3 Little Terns, 26 Sandwich and 10 Common Terns were counted, and over the grazing marsh 152 Curlew, a Whimbrel, 2 Bar-tailed and a Black-tailed Godwit were observed together with 3 Dunlin. Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers were around the reserve today, with a Lesser Whitethroat trapped and ringed, 2 Bearded Tits in the reeds and a Crossbill briefly in the top of the pines.

Moths today included 5 Oak Eggars, 8 Garden Tigers, 2 Poplar Hawks, 4 Rosy Footmen, 3 Knot Grass, 5 Least Carpets, 2 Riband Waves, 10 Common Footmen, 2 Small Elephant Hawks, a Small Blood-vein, 7 Single Dotted Waves, 7 Rustics, 6 Dingy Footmen, 2 Brown-line Bright Eyes, Scalloped Oak, 3 Uncertain, 4 Yellow Tail, 8 Pine Hawks, 4 Scarce Footmen, 2 Dark Arches, 2 Cloaked Minors, 4 Smoky Wainscots, 8 Drinkers, 5 Ruby Tigers, 2 Willow Beauties, Fern, 3 Haworth's Pug, 2 Clay, Lyme Grass, 2 Early Thorns, 2 Buff Tips, Rosy Minor, Buff Arches, Fen Wainscot and a Wormwood Pug.

A female Emperor Dragonfly was seen in the morning and Gatekeepers remain numerous.
