ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Saturday 2nd July 2022

Up to six Spoonbills were seen in the recording area during the day and a pair of Wigeon were on the Broadwater, with a Cuckoo and a juvenile Tawny Owl noticed around the pines and a family of Stonechats still on the east bank.


In the moth traps a Garden Tiger was a highlight with 2 Small Elephant Hawks, Small Magpie, Kent Black Arches, Smoky Wainscot, 3 Mottled Rustics, 2 Dark Arches, 2 Uncertains, 2 Poplar Greys, 2 Brown Tails, Dwarf Cream Wave, a Buff Footman, Coronet, Common Swift, Common Footman, Ear agg, Barred Yellow, White-line Dart, 2 Flames, Flame Shoulder, 2 Rustics, a V-Pug and a Bright-line Brown-eye were caught.

Butterflies included Small Copper, Painted Lady, Gatekeeper and Red Admiral.
