ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Friday 19th August 2022

Highlights today included 18 Shelduck east offshore, 28 Common Scoters, a Fulmar, 2 Great Crested Grebes, 14 Little Terns, 38 Sandwich Terns and 4 Common Terns. Waders included 9 Avocets, 265 Oystercatchers, 49 Lapwings, 3 Ringed Ploverrs, 18 Whimbrel, 45 Curlew, 108 Black-tailed Godwits, a Ruff, 12 Dunlin, Green Sandpiper, 2 Spotted Redshanks and a Greenshank. In the dunes a juvenile Cuckoo was seen, with 2 Green Woodpeckers, a Cetti's Warbler, 3 Chiffchaffs, 4 Willow Warblers, 2 Lesser Whitethroats, a juvenile Wheatear and 4+ Pied Flycatchers around the site.

Moths today included a Rush Veneer, 15 Lesser Broad Bordered Yellow Underwings, 10 Nutmegs, a Six-striped Rustic, 21 Flounced Rustics, 29 Small Square Spots, 22 White-lined Darts, a Straw Dot, Straw Underwing, Drinker, 10 Flame Shoulders, 2 Silver Ys, a Marbled Clover, 11 Archer's Darts, 3 Ferns, 2 White Points, 2 Turnips a Gold Swift and a Rosy Rustic. Two Humming-bird Hawk Moths were on the buddleias.
