ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Saturday 20th August 2022

A breezy day with south westerlies, on the sea a single Brent Goose, 5 Common Scoter, a Fulmar, 11 Gannets, 4 Little Terns, 9 Sandwich and 4 Common Terns were recorded. Three Pied Flycatchers were in the pines beside the coastal footpath behind the Obs during the day, and two Wheatears were also seen. An Osprey drifted low over the NOA centre at 09.18 and headed east, while other birds of note were 2 Whimbrel, 54 Black-tailed Godwits, Common and Green Sandpipers, Spotted Redshank, Greehsnank, a Turtle Dove in the forestry, and 3 Stonechats on the east bank.
 
In the moth traps today 2 Sharp-angled Peacocks, a Fern, 13 Vine's Rustics, 5 Flame Shoulders23 Flounced Rustics, 15 Lesser Broad Bordered Yellow Underwings, 24 Small Square Spots, 9 Archer's Darts, 2 Gold Swifts, a Cabbage, Pebble Hook-tip, 3 Chinese Characters, 2 Nutmegs, a Pale Mottled Willow, Copper Underwing, 7 White-lined Darts, Ruby Tiger, 12 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, 2 Straw Underwings, 2 Large Yellow Underwings, Square-spot Rustic, Turnip, Coronet, Smoky Wainscot, Rush Veneer and Scorched Carpet were caught.
