ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Saturday 13th August 2022

At sea today 9 Common Scoter, a Fulmar, 4 Great Crested Grebes, 6 Little Terns, 61 Sandwich Terns and 231 Common Terns were counted. Four Spoonbills were of interest and waders included 10 Golden Plover, 2 Whimbrel, 86 Black-tailed Godwits, Common and Green Sandpipers, Greenshank and Spotted Redshank. Around the reserve both Barn and Tawny Owl were noted with Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers present along with a Sand Martin, 4 Swallows, 5 Chiffchaffs, Willow Warbler, Whitethroat, 4 Stonechats, 2 Yellow Wagtails and a Pied Flycatcher was still in the pines behind the Obs building in the afternoon.
 
Two Humming-bird Hawk Moths were on the buddleias and in the traps a Yellow Tail, 2 Gold Swifts, Garden Pebble, 12 White-lined Darts, Sharp-angled Peacock, Common Carpet, Fern, 10 Archer’s Darts, 12 Flounced Rustics, Latticed Heath, Purple Bar, Garden Tiger, Turnip, Double-striped Pug, 3 Nutmegs, 2 Common Rustics, 4 Small Square Spots, 2 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwings, 3 Cloaked Minors, Straw Underwing, Spectacle, 8 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, 7 Flame Shoulders, 4 Vine’s Rustics, 2 White Points, 3 Large Yellow Underwings, Lime-speck Pug, Colon and Wormwood Pug were found.
