ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Sunday 14th August 2022

Another sweltering day, two Pied Flycatchers were in the very west end of the pines during the afternoon, and a steady passage of Yellow Wagtails was noted with at least 12 recorded heading west. Also of note were 2 Greenshank, a Spoonbill, Common and 3 Green Sandpipers, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 5 Cetti's Warblers, 6 Chiffchaffs, 2+ Willow Warblers, 8 Blackcaps, 2 Whitethroats, 3 Sedge and 4 Reed Warblers and 4 Stonechats.

In the moth traps a fairly quiet catch included 4 Sharp-angled Peacocks, 13 Flounced Rustics, Rosy Wave, 8 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, 8 Small Square Spots, 4 Vine's Rustics, Cream Wave, Straw Dot, 6 Turnip, 9 White-lined Darts, Small Waved Umber, 5 Archer's Darts, Smoky Wainscot, 2 Ferns, Nutmeg, Yellow Tail, 3 Flame Shoulders, Square-spot Rustic, Common Rustic, 2 Cloaked Minors, 2 Cabbages and a Silver Y. Two Humming-bird Hawk Moths were again on the buddleias most of the day.
