ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Saturday 27th August 2022

 
Another day of light north-easterlies and sunny spells. Highlights were a Great White Egret, 4 Spoonbills, Red Kite, 167 Black-tailed Godwits, a Ruff, 2 Green Sandpipers, 2 Snipe, a Kingfisher, 10 Chiffchaffs, 4 Willow Warblers, 3 Blackcaps, 4 Whitethroats, 3 Sedge and 4 Reed Warblers, a Pied Flycatcher showing on and off above the view platform during the afternoon, a Whinchat was trapped and ringed, 8 Stonechats and a Yellow Wagtail were also of interest.
 
In the moth traps 2 Single Dotted Waves, Double-striped Pug, 8 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, 3 Garden Pebbles, 5 Small Square-spots, 23 Flounced Rustics, 2 Flame Shoulders, Square-spot Rustic, 12 Archers Darts, a Fern, 3 Vine's Rustics, Chinese Character, Spectacle, 2 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwings, 3 Vine's Rustics, 5 Large Yellow Underwings, White-lined Dart and Yellow Belle were caught.
 
Around the reserve a Small Copper, 3 Common Blues, 10 Small Heaths, 2 Speckled Woods and a Green-veined White were also noted.
