ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Thursday 25th August 2022

There was persistent, much-needed rain throughout the day and a moderate north westerly wind. Seawatching produced 36 Common Scoter, a Red-throated Diver east, 5 Gannets, 3 Arctic Skuas west, a Bonxie, 6 Little  Terns, 40 Sandwich and 50 Common Terns. A Greenshank and a Kingfisher were around the Broadwater.
 
In the moth traps a Poplar Hawk, Angle Shades, 3 Garden Pebbles, Blood Vein, 2 Straw Dots, 2 Ferns, Lime-speck Pug, Sharp-angled Peacock, 44 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, Cabbage, 32 Flounced Rustics, 7 Archer’s Darts, 5 Flame Shoulders, 4 Common Wainscots, 22 Small Square Spots, Hedge Rustic, 9 Vine’s Rustics, Brimstone, Chinese Character, Bright-line Brown-eye, Latticed Heath, 2 Square-spot Rustics, 2 Nutmegs, Gold Swift, 3 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow underwings, Willow Beauty, Broad Bordered Yellow Underwing, 3 White-line Darts, Rosy Rustic, 2 Six-striped Rustics, Straw Underwing, 2 Large Yellow Underwings, Silver Y, Rosy Footman and Oak Hook-tip were caught, with a Humming-bird Hawk Moth seen near the buddleias.
