ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Wednesday 31st August 2022

 I was able to open some of the sheltered nets but only managed to catch 9 birds of 6 species; 1 Robin, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Chiffchaff, 3 Blackcap, 1 Meadow Pipit and 2 Reed Warbler.

On the sea was 206 Common Scoter, 1 Red-throated Diver, 47 Gannet, 7 Great Crested Grebe, 8 Little Tern, 87 Sandwich Tern, 1 Common Tern, 2 Kittiwake, 20 Arctic Skua, 1 Great Skua, 2 Eider and 30 Wigeon. A single Wheatear was found in the dunes but very little passerine passage today. 

Moth traps were fairly quiet, 53 moths of 22 species including 5 Archers Dart, 1 Straw Underwing, 2 Silver Y, 1 Shore Wainscot and 1 Flounced Orange.
