ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Monday 12th September 2022

An unsettled day with rain in the afternoon. Highlights were 5 Brent Geese on the beach, 1 Pintail over the Broadwater, 7 Eider and 3 Great Crested Grebes on the sea, a Cattle Egret west over Thornham Harbour, 220 Golden Plover, 121 Curlew, 250+ Black-tailed Godwits, Common Sandpiper, Barn Owl, Kingfisher, 10 Chiffchaffs and 12 Willow Warblers.
 
Few moths were caught overnight with 3 Flounced Rustics, 5 Large Yellow Underwings, 6 Square-spot Rustics, a Large Wainscot, White-lined Dart and Small Square-spot among the catch.
 
A Willow Emerald Damselfly was near the Observatory in the early afternoon.
