ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Tuesday 13th September 2022

A light north easterly prevailed. Highlights included 80 Pink-feet, 11 Spoonbills, 2 Kingfishers and 400+ Black-tailed Godwits on the Broadwater, 3 Red Kites over Thornham Harbour, 1200 Oystercatchers on the beach, a Curlew Sandpiper was on the NWT pools, a Peregrine hunting on the beach, 250+ Swallows, 30+ House Martins, 10 Chiffchaffs, Willow Warbler, 4 Blackcaps, 2 Lesser Whitethroats, a Reed Warbler, a single Whinchat in the dunes together with 6 Stonechats.

In the moth traps a Dark-barred Twin-spot Carpet, Snout, 13 Square-spot Rustics, 2 Willow Beauties, a Kent Black Arches, Flounced Rustic, Ruby Tiger, Large Wainscot, 7 Large Yellow Underwings, Shuttle-shaped Dart, Small Square-spot, 3 Archer's Darts, White-lined Dart and a Straw Dot were caught.

Another Willow Emerald Damselfly was near the Observatory.
