ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Monday 3rd October 2022

A day of increasing south-westerlies with some sunshine, visual migration was observed during the morning with 21 Bearded Tits, 4 House Martins, 8 Cetti's Warblers, 24 Long-tailed Tits, 5 Chiffchaffs, a Blackcap, 9 Stonechats, 8 Tree Sparrows, 4 Grey Wagtails, 60 Meadow Pipits, 8 Rock Pipits, Brambling, 2 Redpolls, 25 Siskins and 15 Reed Buntings counted. On the sea 43 Common Scoter, 14 Red-throated Divers, 12 Gannets, 6 Great Crested Grebes and 8 Razorbills were recorded. Also of interest today were 8 Spoonbills, 4 Red Kites, 11 Buzzards, 2 Water Rails, 14 Black-tailed Godwits, Spotted Redshank, 2 Greenshank, a Barn Owl, 2 Kingfishers and a Peregrine also of interest. The Yellow-browed Warbler was heard on a few occasions opposite the Dell Hide but remained elusive.
 
In the moth traps a Broad Bordered Yellow Underwing, 11 Large Wainscots, 27 Lunar Underwings, 7 Beaded Chestnuts, 8 Large Yellow Underwings, 3 Feathered Ranunculus, Square-spot Rustic, Setaceous Hebrew Character, Lesser Yellow Underwing and Deep-brown Dart were recorded.
