ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Sunday 23rd October 2022

On the sea today 4 Red-breasted Mergansers, a Red-throated Diver, 5 Great Crested Grebes and 4 Razorbills were counted. A group of 14 Little Egrets flew east early morning and a Greenshank was around the Broadwater, with 61 Golden Plover on the grazing marsh. A range of common migrants continued to be seen around the reserves with 50+ Goldcrests in the pines and 6 Cetti’s Warblers, 6 Blackcaps, 60 Blackbirds, 5 Song Thrushes, 20 Redwings, 50 Robins, 2 Stonechats, a Grey Wagtail, 5 Rock Pipits, 6 Bramblings and 15 Siskins all of interest. A flock of 14 Snow Buntings flew east along the beach.
 
In the moth traps 12 Large Wainscots, 5 Large Yellow Underwings, 2 Narrow-winged Greys, a Lunar Underwing, Beaded Chestnut, 3 White Points and a Red-green Carpet were caught.
 
A Painted Lady was on the wing near the pond.
